As a result of my 19 years of teaching experience, a Bachelors of Arts Degree, and a Master of Art Education, I have every confidence in my ability to become a valued contributing member of your community.
I am a passionate, globally engaged, continuing life-long learner who has taught a wide range of courses and mediums. Currently I am teaching at the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design in the Art Education Department. Prior to RMCAD I taught MYP Visual and Media Arts at Istanbul International Community School. After leading and teaching art programs overseas for 7 years, my recent relocation to Denver has been focused on where my skills as an art educator and leader best overlap to support larger institutions to create community impact.
Prior to Istanbul, I had the privilege of educating at the American Embassy School, New Delhi. In this environment, I developed highly effective teaching strategies to foster a culture of thinking that is both motivating and engaging for all learning styles. My classroom is one that explores critical thinking, personal creative exploration and the role of the artist in the 21st century. My expertise in service learning has become a priority in my teaching style and supports my endeavors as an educator. In my classroom students explore their sense of self and their relationships to the world around them to create artistic content that connects them with their communities as agents of change. These connections to personal and social issues create opportunities for collaboration that are a central pillar of my teaching philosophy.
One of my greatest strengths as an educator is instilling a sense of accomplishment in my students as they progress in their learning journeys. I achieve this by developing a personal understanding of each student’s unique needs in a one-on-one, supportive learning environment. I provide each student with choices that challenge and give ownership over individual learning experiences.
I have an extremely diverse background in artistic mediums as well as classroom experiences. My artistic background encompasses knowledge in ceramics, painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, animation, photography, and film. I have adopted teaching strategies through professional training with Adaptive Schools, CoeTail, and Making Thinking Visible groups while teaching art to students of grades 1 through 12. I have taught in extremely diverse international schools in India, Turkey, and Japan. As well as schools for at risk students in the United States.
The diversity of students I have educated and the array of mediums I have taught have made me flexible and fearless in the face of new teaching opportunities. I look forward to collaborating with you and discussing in detail where my experiences and skills best contribute to your programs, school, and learning community.
